Key Words: electronic publishing • intellectual property • early online posting • embargo date
Circulation Research, in consultation with the Scientific Publishing Committee of the American Heart Association, has been experimenting with early online posting of accepted manuscripts since April of this year. This initiative, Online First, has been so well-received that we have decided to make the practice even more aggressive. Beginning immediately, all original scientific articles that are accepted in a given week will be posted online within 5 to 9 working days, regardless of the print issue in which they are due to appear. Individual and institutional subscribers can now log on to www.circresaha.org and access proof versions of the Original Contributions, Reports, UltraRapid Communications, and Research Commentaries that were accepted in the previous week. Editorials, MiniReviews, and Reviews are not included in Online First. This strategy will effect a marked reduction in the time from acceptance to appearance in the public domain (from the current mean of 5 to 6 weeks to 1 to 2 weeks). As of today, the embargo date for the original research articles posted under Online First changes to coincide with that of the online posting date.
