Response by Towbin and Jefferies to Letter Regarding Article, “Cardiomyopathies Due to Left Ventricular Noncompaction, Mitochondrial and Storage Diseases, and Inborn Errors of Metabolism”
The Letter to the Editor by Finsterer regarding our article entitled “Cardiomyopathies Due to Left Ventricular Noncompaction, Mitochondrial and Storage Diseases, and Inborn Errors of Metabolism” notes that although the article describes a significant list of mitochondrial disorders associated with left ventricular noncompaction that there is a longer list of associated mitochondrial disorders.1 Although this may be true, that data are generally weak and the purpose of any review is to be as complete as is reasonable. Therefore, his points are noted, mitochondrial disease is associated with noncompaction and is heterogeneous.
