Lipid fractions from plasma and atheromatous lesions of cholesterol-fed rabbits were analyzed for fatty acids by gas-liquid chro matography. Pronounced differences in the fatty acid composition of plasma and arterial phospholipid fractions support the concept that these lipids are not just random deposits of the corresponding plasma lipids. Cholesterol esters of intimal lesions also differ in fatty acid composition from the plasma esters. Triglycerides ill intima and plasma showed the greatest similarity in composition.
